Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Maxim Christmas is a highly regarded Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), specializing in hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow reconstruction, upper limb surgery, Ilizarov techniques, and limb lengthening. Renowned for his expertise, innovation, and commitment to advancing orthopaedic care, he has made a significant impact on the field both in Jamaica and internationally.
His medical career began with a Biochemistry degree at the University of the West Indies (UWI) before pursuing his MBBS in 1999. His passion for musculoskeletal health led him to specialize in orthopaedics, completing his Doctorate in Orthopaedic Surgery (DM Ortho) in 2014.

Furthering his expertise, he underwent specialized training in Melbourne, Australia, focusing on hip, knee, and upper limb reconstruction, Ilizarov lengthening, and deformity correction. His advanced skills have helped enhance surgical techniques and patient outcomes across the Caribbean.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Christmas is a dedicated medical educator and researcher, serving as a lecturer at UWI and mentoring future healthcare professionals. He has actively contributed to the field through numerous research publications, including:
